Yesterday when the mail arrived I was so happy to see my Jimmy Beans order had arrived. So much lovely squishy wooly, silky, bambooy, goodness. The yarn for Fiona's doll sling is here, and a bunch of lovely purple wool. I wasn't sure what I was going to do with my purple yarn but I have been toying with maybe making MYSELF a sweater. Maybe an Annabel Cardi. When Tracey at Clover knitted up 5 of them for Christmas, well I was inspired. I am not a "selfish" knitter, I tend to knit for others, but I must admit it is a bit disheartening when all the work is for not, well it makes one want to be a "selfish" knitter. I know I will wear the cardi, socks, shawls, mittens, hats, etc. The only person I knit for at the moment who wears what I make is Fiona... and to be honest sometimes she doesn't have a choice. LOL Being not yet two, sometimes mama just picks out the sweater vest and leg warmers, and warm wooly hat.
On the bedside table is Flight Behavior, I am still enjoying this book a lot. Barbara Kingsolver is such a beautiful writer. And I picked up my copy of Buddhism for Mothers. Someone in the Yarn Along last week was reading it and that reminded me that maybe I could use a refresher. We have been having some pre-teen tensions as of late, nothing too major, but this mama can use all the help she can get.
So, what are you knitting and reading?

I just love Call the Midwife. I need to read THAT book.
I love all those delicious "sherbet" colours :)
I have only knitted myself one pair of gloves so I keep promising myself a big project one of these days :)
Your shawl is simply stunning!
You know what I think? I think it's okay to be a selfish knitter once in awhile and I hope you cast on an Annabel of your own. The pattern is super easy to follow and the color will look just stunning on you! Cast on today!
I love Barbara Kingsolver and must get that book.
I think that is the prettiest mail package ever!! Your shawl is lovely and I know it will be worn lots of times.
Ooh look at all that beautiful yarn!!
I love Call the Midwife, too.
I enjoyed Animal Vegetable Miracle but haven't read any others of Barbara's yet.
That yarn is gorgeous. I have read Buddhism for Mothers recently it is a good read and one that I am sure I will go back to. I was given a copy of Call the Midwife for my birthday last year and it is in my to read pile, the author was my piano teacher as a child!
I love the idea of all the sherbet colors for the top! I've decided to only knit for people that I KNOW appreciates the time/effort that goes into knitting. Right now that list is me, my little one & my mom. And hats for charity. I've knit many things over the years and never once have seen them on/around the person I've made them for.
What beautiful, colourful yarn!
Makes you happy just looking at it! I feel with you regarding the pre-teen tension, we seem to be getting to the middle of that....

I love the sherbet colors, it will turn out just lovely. As soon as I finish the knitting I'm doing right now the very next thing I cast on is for mama.
Sherbet top/dress is going to be wonderful. As is the shawl!
I think I might make an annabel also this year, it looks so simple a pattern but so stunning.
Buddhism for Mothers has been on my list for awhile. It may be time to finally pick it up... Those rainbow colors are so happy! Love it!
I usually love everything Barbara Kingsolver writes (although I haven't been able to get through the Lacuna); I've heard others say this is a goodie---might have to download for my next read!!
Love all the colors you have going with the knits! Sure brightens these dreary days.
Your shawl is just beautiful and how wonderful to get that yarn in the mail.
Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment.

tea and simplicity
Love all those colours, so lovely. And how great to get that package in the mail, enjoy!
I'm reading The Dog Stars by Peter Heller. It's a bit out of my genre (post apocalyptic) but it's a Denver writer and the story takes place in Colorado, which I like. I'm liking it more than I thought.
And I just got (based on your blogs suggestions) Seven Times the Sun in the mail today! Can't wait to start reading/applying it.
January is the perfect time for selfish knitting, I'd say! That's what I'm up to...although there is birthday knitting I should be thinking about...
Yarn deliveries are so wonderful. I don't often order online but I may begin simply for the joy of receiving a box of wool!
What lovely projects. I love the bright colours!
