I finally did it! I dyed the bare wool yarn I have had here for over a year, waiting to have this done to it. It was so easy and fun, I am not sure why I put it off for so long. I followed a few different instructions to find something that worked with what I had on hand.
I used Knit Picks Bare  and Easter egg dye.
First I soaked the yarn in a cool bath of 3 inches of water and 1 cup on white vinegar for 30 minutes. Then I drained it and got as much of the water out as possible, you want it damp not soaking wet. Then I mixed up the Easter egg dyes that I had on hand. (Following package directions.) I carefully dripped the colors around so as not to saturate the yarn, but get a good color combos. This part was all done in a large trash bag. Then I covered the yarn up in the bag and stuck it in the microwave for 2 minutes, let it rest for 2 minutes and mircowaved it again for 2 minutes. I took the yarn out and set it on the counter until it cooled completely and then placed it in cool water to rinse it. I squeezed out as much water as possible, ever so gently, you don't want to felt it, and hung it outside to dry. Happiness! It looks so lovely hanging outside in the sunshine. I have no idea what I am going to make with it. It is just roughly 260 yards of bulky weight yarn, but it is lovely.
I think I am going to order some sock weight yarn and dye that. Lovely rainbow socks. :)
