Yarn Along

I had thought I might make myself a hat with this lovely yarn, but I know myself too well... I would never wear it. So instead I am making another sweatery thing for Little sister (Fiona Rose). I think it will look lovely, it knits up so nicely and is so fuzzy soft.
The little boys, Fiona, and I are reading some books on the Winter Solstice. So much fun, even if here in mostly sunny Arizona we don't get the hard core winter like we did in Maine. The last couple of days have been wintery, so it feels right. Knitting and reading by a blazing fire is so nice.
I have been so inspired by other who also are doing this Yarn Along every week with Ginny at Small Things.

National Honors Society

Audrey was inducted into the NSAA chapter of the NHS this evening. I am really so inspired by her drive and willingness to take on so much at such a young age, when she really doesn't have to. This whole high school business is all her. After years of homeschooling she chose to start going to high school, and she has busted butt the whole way through.
It has been an interesting experience for me, as a homeschooling mama, to have a child who so loves the whole school environment. I have to really bite my tongue alot of the time, but you know, it is worth it. This is what she wants and well that is what doing the whole child led learning is all about, letting them take the lead.

What to do on a wet wet Monday

We don't get many days like this in Arizona; wet, cold days that last all day long. Today was one of those days. Instead of being off at the park like we normally do on Mondays, we stayed huddled in the house. There were board games played (the one Caelan made), tea parties with Fiona, lots of sitting by the fire and much eating of fudge. It felt like a perfect day for some homemade corn chowder and tasty freshly baked bread, so that is what I made for dinner.
Living in Arizona, it is nice to have these sorts of days occasionally, getting that little taste of wintery badness, but I have to say I love that it lasts but a day or two and then it is back to playing in the park and basking in the sunshine.

Sunday afternoon

I have been trying to put together a sort of banner/bunting sort of thing that has a holiday theme to it. Everyone is making a panel for it. The only requirements are size and that it pretty please have a winterish theme to it. So far they have been turning out GREAT! I will post a picture when it is all together, which hopefully will be this week.

Alice in Concert

A few wonderful pictures from the musical Audrey was in. (They were taken by the year book staff.) The NSAA musical theater class did an amazing job with this very trippy rendition of Alice in Wonderland. I must say that Audrey was fabulous as Twiddledee and the unicorn, but maybe I am just super biased.

This Moment

A friday ritual, inspired by Soulemama, a single picture from the week a moment I wish to pause, savor and remember.

This week I am grateful:
*my friends
*hot cocoa
*fires in the fireplace
*A Christmas Carol

Yarn Along

Right now I am finishing up the last two pairs of fingerless mitts for holiday giving. What I am wanting to get working on is this. I bought three skeins of this yarn (which is absolutely heavenly) and had made a wool soaker for Fiona with one, but I had no idea what to do with the other two. Then I saw that Kimara of Wee Folk Art was making something with this same yarn! I was sooo happy. And I am making this hat for me!
As for the reading, well, when I am in a funky spot I always turn to Heather Cushman-Dowdee for a good funny read. I love the Hathor the Cowgoddess comics, and Heather's essays.
