Yarn Along

fiona's vest

audrey's shawl
Joining Ginny from Small Things for the weekly Wednesday Yarn Along.

While on vacation I knitted Fiona a vest using this pattern which I used to make both Cae's and Sagan's Christmas vests. And because I was very unhappy with how Audrey's techicolor dream shawl turned out (just too small) I unraveled the whole thing and reknit it using larger needles. It is almost twice the size, which means way more cozy. I also finished up my mystery gift just before we left town, and the shawl turned out great and was well received. I don't have a photo of it for some reason. I also unraveled my shawl (the Autumn  one) and am reknitting it with larger needles. I am a bit at a loss as to what to do now that my power knitting is all done. I got a couple free patterns, I might try a pair of socks, I started a pair sometime last year but really got all scattered when I got to the heel turn. One of my goals for this year is to push myself to try new things. And I think socks is a great place to start. I also want to learn to cable and to do fair isle knitting. So next Christmas could be very exciting!
My dear loving husband got me books for Christmas! I am currently reading Flight Behavior by Barbara Kingsolver. Like all of her books it is hard for me to put down. I am really loving it. While on vacation I read Let it Snow, I love that book. We got it for Audrey 4 years ago for Christmas and I have read it every Christmas since, I guess it is my Christmas read. Mike also got me a book by Oliver and S "Little Things to Sew" which is just full of cute things to make. I am working on a couple projects for Fiona's 2nd birthday, I am going to make her a bag to hold her goodies in, the one from Amanda Soule's first book; a quilt for her doll (we will be getting her one for her birthday, she is always stealing her brothers baby dolls) and I found a really neat looking doll sling pattern which I want to knit up in this yarn. Maybe if there is time I might try and sew up matching skirts for Fiona and her doll. (Is that weird??)

Thanks for stopping by the World of Wiedz.
That vest looks adorable...and no ribbing at the neck/arms? I'll have to look into that pattern!!!

Good for you for unraveling and re-knitting when you were unhappy with your finished product. I know how hard it is to rip back and go again, when it would be so simple to just toss it aside and declare it a "bad project".

Fiona is adorable!

Adorable vest! I know you can do your knitting goals! Cables and fair isle are both intimidating, but are really super easy. If a knitting newbie like me can get the hang of them, you can too!

I really want to cable this year as well. From what people tell me, it really isn't that difficult, but it certainly seems that way! I guess after I attempt it I can make that decision! Love knitting socks...although I usually run out of steam so have stuck to socks for my babes :-)

Love how the vest and hat turned out! Hopefully you'll get the power-knitting bug again soon :) I'm up for a new project, but I haven't done much of anything since Christmas!

You're a true power knitter, all very beautiful. The idea of same dresses for daughter and doll is nice :) I did it and daughter loved it.
And I agree with cpcable, fair isle looks intimidating, but is quite simple. I have learned it from books, and have only been knitting 7 pair of mittens in my whole life ;) Keep on!

I like that doll sling pattern. And I don't think matching skirts are weird at all.Your little Fiona sure is a cutie! And she looks so beautiful in the hat and vest. I really like the yarn you chose with her skin tone. Make sure to post a picture of that baby sling. Have a beautiful day!
