Gratitude weekending

The weekend started out with Caelan discovering that there were some wild parrots living in a neighbor's tree. It was very exciting. Such lovely little guys. Apparently at some point in the past they were "the in pet" and people bought pairs of them, as they grew bored of them they set them free and now there are a couple colonies of these sweet little birds around the Phoenix metro area. We have seen them at ASU and at a park but never just in our neighborhood. Hopefully we will see them again.

Saturday was to be spent in northern Arizona going for a lovely hike in Sedona, but the weather forecast called for loads of rain, a 90% chance of rain and cool temperatures. So we decided to stay home... we cleaned and scrubbed and folded laundry and waited for a nice big rain that was suppose to come from the north and hit us here in the valley... NOTHING! Apparently it didn't even rain too much in Sedona. Very disappointing, as I really wanted to get out of town for a day and go on a nice hike. We went to Ikea instead, not really the same, but you do get in some leg work walking around that giant store, and the kids bounced on every bed and sofa, so they got their wiggles out.

Sunday we had brunch with my parents, we hadn't seen them since before they left on their 5 week adventure to Oregon, it was nice catching up. Then in the late afternoon we headed to a friends how for a fun multi-family gathering for dinner, drinks and loads of conversation. We brought the teenagers, who sadly, just wanted to go home, so we left a bit early. Still, it was a lovely time.

I am so grateful for our community, the large one of the Phoenix-metro area for so many opportunities, and for our smaller one of homeschool friends. I am grateful we got to spend some time with my parents this weekend. For the lovely cooler temps we had the last couple of days and for the bits of rain we got in the middle of the night (either that or the neighbor was spraying a hose in our yard), and for fun evenings with my honey watching bad movies on the computer.

Community, where would we be without them. I offer gratitude for this each and every day.

Wishing you a lovely week.

We've had a few cooler days here and it's been nice. I hope you get your rain soon and I don't, I am really enjoying the sunshine.

It is always nice to live in a great community. I haven't been to Phoenix in years [I use to live in Yuma], and I bet it's really grown.

That sounds so relaxing! I've always wanted to visit Ikea, but there aren't any in our area. And now Arizona is sounding pretty nice, too, though I suppose I'd enjoy it more during our cold and snowy New England winters.

Bad movies are the best, we joke and poke fun of them. Glad you were able to spend time with your family, I wish I lived closer to mine :)

How cool is that? Wild parrots? When we moved to RI we saw yellow finches outside and thought somebody's birds had escaped! We had never seen them before. I need to take a trip to IKEA soon. I'm trying to save some money up for the trip. It sounds like you had such a nice weekend!
