Yarn Along

boobie hat

doll blanket and readings

Well, this week I haven't been too terribly productive. I am waiting for my yarn to come from KnitPicks, it is taking FOREVER! (Well, it feels that way, anyway.) I am planning on making Fiona the Tomten jacket by Elizabeth Zimmerman. Mike got me one of her books for my birthday, and it has the pattern in it... ok not really a pattern just some weird random directions. Honestly I am a bit scared to start knitting it. I have no idea how much to cast on or when to do certain things. I guess I will have to knit a swatch (I have avoided doing that up to this point) and then just sort of wing it. Hopefully my yarn will get here before I leave town with the littles for the weekend, so I will have something to do when they are all engaged with something other than me.
I did knit a booby hat for my sister in law, so when my nephew is born he will have a cute hat. LOL And I started knitting a doll blanket with some left over yarn I had, just something to sort of pass the time.
I am reading Ina May's breastfeeding book and I got my copy of Taproot in the mail (finally!) and I am just eating both of those up. Which is nice because I haven't found too much stuff that has sparked my interest lately.
Joining Ginny in the weekly Yarn Along. :)

Sometimes it does feel like good mail will never come. I think I have the same EZ book that you have and have wondered about how to knit some of the patterns too. Have you check on Ravelry to see if anyone has a project page with the same pattern?
My Taproot [finally] came in too and I think this is the best issue so far! Enjoy.

Love Elizabeth Zimmerman! Yes do a swatch and follow her directions. Don't try to figure it out ahead of time. I find that's the secret. Just believe in Elizabeth and follow what she says. I've never had a project turn out wrong yet.

I've heard about Taproot here and there, but haven't subscribed yet. I'm not too sure exactly what it's about... does anyone care to share?

@Misty: hmm that is a hard question. it is sort of a hmmm like back to earth magazine. lots of essays, occasional recipes, wonderful art, no ads. this month there is a knitting pattern. each month has a theme. this month is retreat, so the essays focus on the monthly theme. so far i have enjoyed it alot. personally the second issue was my favorite so far, but the other two are good as well.

@Nicole: mike got me knitting workshop. i wanted that one because of the tomten jacket and the surprise jacket patterns.

Taproot looks like an interesting magazine, especially since I've not heard about it.

Isn't Taproot lovely? Makes me feel good to read it, and I can't say that about many magazines, you know?

I'm pondering the Tomten jacket, too. Of course, there isn't much I'm not pondering knitting these days ;-)

Best wishes!

Benton's mama made sweater was a tomten. It was a bit crazy at first, but it comes together nicely. Just trust the directions. I will be back soon too.
