Yarn Along

yarn along
Joining Ginny's Yarn Along again this week!

I am in sort of a knitting in between land. I have the darn sweater I am still trying to finish (just the sewing the pieces together) and this dress/tunic/shirt I want to make for Fiona. But honestly I am a bit nervous about starting it. It will be the hardest thing I have ever knitted and I tend to put off hard stuff. So instead of knitting the dress for Fiona, I chose to knit a doll blanket for Fiona's doll.
One of the books I got for myself was "The Mother Trip". I have bought this book at least three times. I read it, feel great and pass it on to someone in need. Well, I was needing it again. I just love how Ariel Gore writes, how she inspires me to be a more authentic person and to stop beating myself up so much for not being the "perfect mama" I fail to be. Oh, how I loved those days when Hipmama.com was the place to be for alternative parenting and how those women helped me accept myself and give me a virtual community of like minded people before I found a real community of mama friends.
I am reading the little boys "A Journey to Health Land". This is one goofy old book. I have had it for years, I can't even remember where I got it, maybe a friends of the library sale, or some old used book store, I don't know. It is a health book written in the 1920's. It is sort of told in story form... a bunch of sad, pale, kids who never go outside, and lack the pink cheeks follow a bugler to Health Land and learn all the things kids need to know about being healthy. Even how important a daily poo is. LOL They had a serious obsession with pooping back in the 20's.

LOL OK I laughed just at your description of your vintage book :) I found one today in an antique store that was called the 'Marriage Guide for Men' or some such. It was an old Victorian book on the birds and the bees LOL
You can do the difficult knit- most difficult knits are just more of the same ;)

I put off hard stuff too and then later when I pick them up they dont seem so hard. Good luck, you can do it!

Journey to Health Land sounds like a hoot. Maybe that's where my grandmother got some of her information? I know what you mean about putting off something difficult and being nervous about it. Just try it! The worst you could do is have to rip it out and begin again.

I hate sewing pieces together, and hardly ever make things that aren't seamless (or close) anymore because of it. But, the sweater I'm making now is worked flat, so I'll have to sew it together won't I - like it or not? I just loved the pattern so much, I was willing do the sewing -- blech. Anyhoo, I know your new project will be lovely! And "The Mother Trip" sounds very good - think I'll hop on over to Amazon to have a look.
Blessings,
G

I'm sure your sweater will be lovely once you get through the hard parts. Such a funny old book you have there!
