Yarn Along

knitting and reading

fiona's sweater vest
I finally finished up Fiona's sweater vest. After struggling with how to sew it up I decided to use a blanket stitch in contrasting black yarn and added black buttons. I think it turned out really well. I am very pleased with it, and Fiona' looks super cute as well.
I cast on the "easy baby cardigan" from More Last Minute Knitted Gifts for Fiona (yes, I know I make alot of stuff for her, but they go so quickly and she isn't too picky. LOL) I think I finally found a use for this yarn I got while we lived in Maine. I just love the dark gray and white and softness of it, but I have been sort of waiting (for what I don't know) to find just the right thing for it. Plus I have some GREAT red owl buttons from Bread and Buttons that I have been wanting to use.
I have been reading some Buddhist text that I downloaded onto my Nook. I have really been needing to read this stuff for awhile now. I need to practice being in this moment instead of always either wallowing in the past or daydreaming/worrying about the future. Some days I feel as if I am wasting away my life by not being present. What is that saying? The past is over, the future is unknown, but today is a gift that is why it is  called the present, I need a constant reminder of that it seems.
After my first miscarriage almost 15 years ago, I felt really lost and studied Buddhism for a few years, it has always made me feel grounded, helped me navigate hard times and focus on the present. I have been needing these lessons again alot lately.

I love the saying you posted, it is so true and something we should all take to heart.

I absolutely LOVE how you sewed up the vest, with the black. I'm going to have to "borrow" your idea on an upcoming project. It really looks fantastic.
Thank you so much for sharing that.

I totally get the need for Buddhist text. The lessons really ground me too. Good luck in your journey. We all need kindness and compassion, especially for ourselves.
Have you read the Buddhism for Mothers of Small Children books?
Fiona is gorgeous and I love the vest you made! Thanks for stopping by my space!

Love the rainbow yarn and I make alot of things for my baby also (except she is about to turn 3). It is just cuter and easier and no need to apologize for that : )

I love that little vest!

You might think I'm being a little dramatic, but sometimes I feel like God really speaks to me through the Yarn Along. Yours is the 3rd mention of Buddist meditation/thinking that I've read from yarn-along-ers today. I'm pretty scattered lately and I'm thinking Someone is trying to tell me I need to do some meditation & focus myself.

i love the colors in the vest--it's so cheery! i have found a lot of peace in reading buddhist/meditation books as well. have you read any pema chodron? i find her writing to be so stunningly honest--she really cuts to the core and helps me to strip away the assumptions and attitudes that i have built up that keep me from truly living in the present.
